Fine Motor Milestones at 8-12 Months

The time between 8 and 12 months of age is an exciting one for parents, as their little ones begin to start doing more with their hands and fingers. The ever important “pincer grasp”  comes about in this stage- used for picking up smaller pieces of food, or using smaller parts of a toy. Though in general, fine motor development is booming for 8-12 month old babies. Below are some milestones you should look out for during this time:

• Uses pincer grasp (grasp using thumb and index finger) (7-10 mos.)
•
Bangs two one-inch cubes together (8-12 mos.)
•
Pokes with index finger (9-12 mos.)
•
Puts objects into container (10-12 mos.)
•
Takes objects out of container (10-12 mos.)
•
Tries to imitate scribbling (10-12 mos.)

If you notice your child is behind in one or more of these areas, please contact iRockit for a complimentary parent consultation. The earlier you get your child developmental support, the better!
